3 Tips for Building A Speaking Business if You’re Busy From Shailesh Ghimire

Table of Contents

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. It’s about choosing how you spend them.

Shailesh Ghimire is one of our TSL Alumni who joined us on the podcast with Maryalive Goldsmith to chat about his story, what led him to speak, how he’s building and scaling his speaking business, and what he thinks was the riches part of the program was.

Here are the top 3 takeaways from their conversation:

Practice Makes Perfect.

While some of us become speakers later in life, Shailesh had the experience of practicing and refining his public speaking skills from a young age. During his childhood, his father challenged him to stand up and present overviews of his week every week to the whole family.

By the time he was an adult, speaking and presenting information in front of a crowd was second nature. Consequently, employers and teams he worked on quickly recognized his strength, and he gained a lot of exposure at work as a direct result of having the confidence to speak in front of people. The main idea here is that stage fright can be overcome by practice. Put in the hours, practice with everyone you can, and getting on stage or in front of a crowd will get easier!

Own Your time.

Naturally, as humans, we are all privy to the same 24 hours a day. However, what we choose to accomplish is a result of how we spend that time. Shailesh is a busy man! He’s got a wife, four lovely daughters, a digital marketing business, and he’s building a speaking career. Time isn’t a luxury for him! Shailesh notes that the program taught him how to maximize the time he’s putting into developing his speaking business.

For Shailesh he’s found it easier to set goals if he attaches an emotional goal to a quantitive goal. IE: Booking speaking gigs, so he can take his wife on another get-a-way. When he’s focused on the emotional aspect of his quantitive goals, it’s easier to do the hard or monotonous tasks needed to get the bigger output.

Find Your impact.

Shailesh notes that finding your impact and believing in your value makes it easier to avoid the impostor syndrome as you build and scale a business. He says, “what is the problem you’re solving, right? If you think of it in those terms, it becomes a lot easier and not too intimidating because you believe in what you’re doing and that you are bringing value to these people.”

So, if you can solve a problem for your audience, bring a solution they can apply to their own lives/business/etc, and you can do it with your expertise and knowledge, you finding your place on stage gets easier and easier.
