As a personal chef and a health coach I was doing a lot of work with clients both one on one and through lunch and learns. I was speaking without formally calling myself a speaker. When Covid hit most of my personal chef work went away so I knew I wanted to up my speaking game but needed to figure out how to make that jump. So even though I was getting some business from speaking I needed to figure out how to make it consistent. It was time for me to get the help I needed from professionals like The Speaker Lab in order to turn my speaking into an actual business.
Since signing up for the Virtual VIP Cohort with Erick Rheam, one amazing result I have had was I did my first live conference ever. This is a direct result from how Erick taught me to work the pipeline from start to finish. I did exactly what Erick recommended and it worked! And, I was paid more than I have ever been paid for any gigs in the past.
Also, I realized part of the whole business is just reminding people that I’m here – that I’m a speaker. Staying top of mind and at the top of their email list is key. As speakers we can’t take no replies or even NO’s personally. We have to stay focused on our personal and professional pursuit.
Another huge value for me was actually seeing the pipeline in action. Erick showed us how it works but not in theory, he actually showed us his pipeline and how he works it. That’s what I needed. I knew I needed the nuts and bolts of how a speaking business works. Everything from watching Erick doing one of his virtual events live to being able to see his backend was a huge plus for me.
Today, my speaking business looks very different. I hired a virtual assistant to help do the things that I don’t necessarily like to do. In the past these are the things that I would let sit for a long time. But with an assistant helping me, we are moving things along much more rapidly. And I am focusing on the things I am really good at like networking and connecting with people. I love that part!

I’ve hired coaches before and they work in theory. To actually have access to somebody who knows what they’re doing and is living it in real life right now… that was amazing! I am newly out of the program and to see it working already is really, really fun. I’m really excited!
The other thing I will say is Erick gave us the tactics of doing a post-interview after an event. I set one up with the live conference I did and she already said that she wants to hire me back for additional events that she’s working on. And she’ll have me on the docket for next year’s conference. I love those effective tricks. I learned every single nugget I could and implemented it immediately. Having these immediate results because of that is awesome!
