Student Success Story: Tina McDermott

Here at The Speaker Lab, our goal is to help you get Booked and Paid to Speak. Our Student Success Stories share first hand experiences from our students of how they’ve booked paid speaking gigs and grown their businesses by applying the concepts they learned in our courses.

Why work with The Speaker Lab?

I’ve seen a lot of programs out there and when I saw Grant’s Booked and Paid To Speak Elite program, I just knew it… I said to myself, that’s my program, that’s what I need to go for my next level personally and professionally. And so I joined and I recently upgraded to the Virtual VIP program with Erick Rheam.

My mission is to teach as many people in this world as possible, how to live healthy, vibrant, and free. I’m a great advocate for health and wellness, and I know that through speaking I can reach as many people as possible. This program is helping me do just that.

What were some of your A-ha’s and takeaways?

That I needed to fix my website. If I was going to uplevel as a professional and successful speaker the website needed to as well. My online visibility needed to match the level of expertise I wanted to portray. In addition, I knew I needed an upgraded photoshoot with me in the kitchen. This was a big one for me because it helped with my confidence in putting myself out there.

The biggest A-ha was the incredible confidence boost I had after having professional photos taken for my website and demo reel. If you haven’t done this, take The Speaker’s Lab advice and get professional pictures taken. This was such a huge takeaway that I plan on doing a professional shoot every year.

The confidence I have gained just by being a part of this program has been incredible. For instance, while working with the coaches I realized that I wasn’t looking at the best possible market for me. I work with corporations, but Nanette helped me realize I needed to hone in on executive teams. Making this change has allowed me to go deeper into top-down culture impact. Having an effect on the leader’s health and wellness which then trickles down into the entire culture. I simply love that!

What is your new normal as a professional speaker?

My new normal is I work from home and I love it. I teach virtual cooking classes right from my kitchen. My commute is two seconds, which I love. I have my office that I deliver my webinars in and I have a ton of extra time. I even have extra time to go walk my dogs and hang out with my cats. I absolutely love it.

Since 2020 all my webinars and online virtual cooking classes have taken off like crazy. I have clients who book me once a month on a regular basis. I love working from home however, I can see being in person and doing some events every now and again. For now, my virtual experiences with my clients are making a strong impact. I am teaching them healthier ways to live and eat and I am making an impact on their overall culture.

Who would you recommend to The Speaker Lab?

I recommend this program to the person who knows that they have a message. For the very beginner who knows they are here for something bigger and they have the desire to speak to larger audiences. And also for that person like me, I was already speaking. I have been speaking for years and I wanted to up my game. I wanted to affect as many people in the world as possible and I needed the coaching, the accountability, and the motivation to get there. The Speaker Lab gave me all that and more.
